GREASY HEEL

I have had a few horses with this over the year's and you don't seem to be able to buy anything that works and doesn't cost a futune, this is what I found that works and is easy on the pocket plus most people carry this anyway.

It is a good idea to clean the mud and greasy scabs from the affected pastern or fetlock.  After it has dried cover the entire area with a mix of lard and sulphur.
3 tablespoons of Lard to one of Sulphur and mix well, and you will need to do this every day until it has gone.  There is no need to cover this with any bandages as the heel is sensitive and this will only aggravate it futher.
Remember that Greasy Heel is caused by bacteria and fungal-like organisms so it is very important to cover the whole affected area.

Removing the fetlock hair is not in the best interest of the horse.
During wet weather thethe hair provides a channel for the water to drip off the leg behind the fetlock and away from the heels.
Horses that have these small tuff of hair removed for cosmetic purposes are more prone to greasy heel, particularly if they have white socks or non pigmented skin.

WOUNDS

Apply Honey to a wound as often as possible.
It will speed up the healing process, and flies aren't stupid, they know they will stick to it, so it keeps them off.
